Description

2003 release that, after following the transcendent "Bitter Fruit", ups the ante to another creative level. Certainly, fans of "Bitter" will more than warmly embrace Bobby's truly unique jangle stylings, but for those not familiar with Sutliff, he was the co-leader in the 80's(along w/ Tim Lee) indie pop band The Windbreakers. No offense to that great band's memory, growing older, wiser has its benefits as his solo work is the kind of musical art that can only come from a talent that has been around the block. Influenced by Television(the guitar work of Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd to be more exact), Let's Active(Mitch Easter mastered this record), Big Star and The Byrds, "Perfect Dream" is filled with the gratifying stretches of accomplished, tasteful riffing and rich, haunting and evocative washings of gentle, inscrutable melodies. "Perfect Dream" is poignantly his best work in an long auspicious career. It's alternatingly beautiful and uplifting with waves of sweet singing, wistful jangle and complex but easy to simply enjoy melodies. A easy waft of fresh and refreshing musical air and not-to-be-misssed for most folks reading this now; the appeal of Bobby Sutliff's body of work is something not to be missed.
