Description
Jah Thomas was born Nkrumah Thomas, August 27th 1955 in the Parish of Kingston, Jamaica W.I.
Roots Dancehall Party is a collection of music that Jah Thomas produced and is here also as a DJ.
"Midnight Rock" on the GG Records label was Thomas' first release, produced by Alvin Ranglin in 1976 and set the stage for this young ambitious artist to break onto the music scene.
By 1979, Thomas was ready, and established his own label: Midnight Rock, named after his first hit, and released his first international hit: "Cricket Lovely Cricket".
On his first trip to London he teamed up with the legendary producer Junjo Lawes and featured on records with Barrington Levy, Dance Pon The Corner and Shine Eye Gal. At this time he released his first dub LP titled " Black Ash Dub" on the Trojan label, he promptly followed this with his first vocal LP "Stop Yu Loafin" on the Greensleeves label.
Thomas teamed up with Silver Camel on his second trip to London in 1980 and released "Dancehall Stylee" which quickly climbed the reggae charts to the Number One spot! The success of this album was followed up with a release from Ranking Toyan, his brother, produced by Thomas. Thomas released a second LP with Silver Camel titled "Dancehall Connection".
Jah Thomas has stayed the course and proven himself to be both a serious roots producer, listen to "Guntalk" by Linval Thompson, and a dancehall entertainer on great tracks like "Friday Night Jamboree".
