Description
Thank you for checking out this release from Bay Area vocalist Sony Holland. This collection is filled with swing and latin rhythms and shows off Sony's effortless range, her voice flowing from a sultry whisper reminiscent of the Brazilian star Astrud Gilberto, to a sassy punch that reveals the powerful influence of Miss Peggy Lee. All eleven songs are classy and fresh, with cleverly fine tuned lyrics.
This is Sony's second disc, and it continues on the path of her debut CD "I'll Remember Paris." The band is once again led by virtuoso pianist Dennis Burnside, and features the beautifully melodic sax and flute work of Jim Hoke, and the smooth guitar of Pat Burgeson. While drawing deeply from the past, "On A San Francisco High" reveals a delightful artist who brings something new to the jazz world.

"Sony Holland is a sultry, aristocratic and markedly superior artist." "This is a five star album, and I guarantee I will keep this disc on tap in my music maker...I am duly impressed and to paraphrase my eloquent friend Nancy Kelly ..."I have taken my hat off so often that I can't find the damn thing" And that is the case for me in offering kudos to a brilliant songwriter, a great singer and one fine ensemble..... " John Gilbert www.jazzreview.com
"This project has broad appeal and it is an absolute gift for jazz vocal enthusiasts who are seeking and appreciative of originals in a genre that thrives on covers. If you only buy one independent CD this year, this should be it. "On A San Francisco High" is deservedly the best CD I've reviewed in 2003." Gian Fiero www.musesmuse.com
