Description
John Brodeur released his solo debut CD "Tiger Pop" in December 2000. The album's combination of smart songwriting, earnest lyrics and carefully orchestrated pop arrangements prompted Performing Songwriter magazine to say "Pop records like this may be scarce, but when they are of this caliber, they won't remain under the radar for long."
John Brodeur and the Suggestions formed in early 2001 with guitarist Keith Hosmer, drummer Jason Schultz and bassist Ryan Battle. The band immediately began a busy performance schedule, landing opening slots for They Might Be Giants and the Pernice Brothers by year's end, as well as a showcase slot at the prestigious CMJ Music Marathon. In 2002, the band travelled to Chicago, Philadelphia, Chapel Hill, and Los Angeles, where they appeared at the 5th annual installment of the International Pop Overthrow festival in July, all in addition to monthly showcases in NYC. Hosmer moved to the bass position upon Battle's departure in late 2002, at which time the band name was shortened to, simply, "The Suggestions."
The leaner, meaner Suggestions recently released their first batch of recordings as a band in form of a 7-song EP, entitled "Mix Tape". The CD features more of the strong songwriting displayed on "Tiger Pop," with a more aggressive musical stance. The band will embark on a 10-date spring tour in March and appear at several regional pop festivals in April. They plan to return to the studio in May to work on their debut full-length record with producers Thom Monahan (Pernice Brothers, Capitol Years) and Pete Donnelly (Figgs, Candy Butchers).
