Description
From the depths of Hell let Virgil, master of the ethermuse, lead you on a sonic journey into and out of the abyss.
Eight ambient tracks take you on a 53 minute journey into the darkness of the pit and "Out of the Ether".
Fans of haunt music, this is your album!!
Hear what haunt fans are saying!
I received my "Out Of The Ether" CD today. I just got finished listening to the 8 tracks.
First let me say that the quality of the CD was excellent. Most of the tracks were very eerie. My favorite track was #6 "Chasm Of The Soul." It could easily be on the soundtrack for any new Horror movie. Starts out with chimes and then gets into some very creepy synthesized moaning/singing.
This is not your typical haunted house soundtrack. This is not a bunch of sound effects or witches cackling and chains rattling. This is a very good compilation of original creepy music that would be a great background CD for any Halloween occasion.
We will be adding this CD to our rotation of background music for this years haunted house.
I look forward to hearing future CD's from Virgil in the future. Keep up the great work!
Sincerely,
Howie Slobber Erlich

"Out Of The Ether" is the newest addition to the Halloween music genre. This CD presents itself as a journey into the beyond; combining low ambiences with "otherworldly" sounds, it delivers an ominous feeling of solitude, coupled with desparitry that will make you feel uncomfortable as you listen to it. The atmospheres that "Out Of The Ether" creates range from dark, to gloomy, to celestial, all
with a foreboding undertone. While some of the tracks have an almost "Midnight Syndicate" feel to them because of the way the orchestra plays out, this CD is unique enough to stand on its own. Unlike many Halloween CD's "Out Of The Ether" presents itself almost like the score from a motion picture, with each track really setting a mood as you listen. You feel as though you are actually in the settings which the CD creates in your head. If you're looking for a CD to set the mood for your haunt, "Out Of The Ether" delivers and has just the right balance of ambience and orchestra to create an unsettling environment for you and your guests.

Out of the Ether by Virgil is a fantastic first time effort into making a haunt CD. It doesnt easily fall into a single music category, so yto ive any form of idea on style, I will be referring to music I know and love.
Probably the closest comparison I can say overall is Danzigs BLACK ARIA CD, but better. One can close their eyes and imagine the mist enshrouded landscape, the night of thunder and terror.
There are 8 tracks, and 5 tracks immediately caught my own fancy. Leyt me go through each with satylistic comparisons.
Track 1 is The Tomb, a short sweet piece with sinistar bass undercurrents, somewhat of a cross between Black Aria and Michael Stearn's Chronosh soudntrack.
Track 2 is Outer Darkness, one of my faves quite fast. It is quite symphonic and elegant with a well defined catchy tune with good chorus structures to go back to the main melody. Very long multiple movements to keep interest going. I also especially enjoyed the notless filter sweeps that remided me something fierce of Verne Langdon's Phantom At The Organ. The main melody is catchy enough where oyur monsters can make words aqnd your gu4ests will be humming it all night long.
Track 3 is Blue Crypt, which begins with low rumbling and a signature tune of low notes, which gives a somewhat murky jungle feel, sort of like Morton Subotnick's The Wild Bull (I am NOT referring to the dance techno jungle, but to a murkier feel). The lower muted bass immediately reminded me of one of my favorite songs, Kiss by Wilt, while the top synth melody was more reminescent of eaqrly Tangerine Dream.
Track 4 is The Lost. Another fave to me, it begins with a low notework set which is reminescent of the tripartate devil's horn from the movie Hellraiser 2, as done by Christopher Young. The reverse attack dynamics make it a jarring and uneasy experience to listen to, along with the sudden loud string attacks which keep the mood going, sudden suspense implied all over this cut, and implying a mood of the lost in a dark world with sudden unexpected and unpleasant suprises.
Track 5 is Undertow, easily my favorite cut of the entire CD. The frisky backdrop and tripartate horn used as the main melody brings to mind once again Black Aria. The curious bells in the chorus bring a clever and differentiating touch. I am also reminded of Sisyphus's Greetings from Burkittsville on this cut.
Track 6 is Chasm of the Soul. Low bass drone and tinkly bell swth a melody sounding like a choir setting on an ESQ-1 keyboard. (my own weapon of chopice, thanks
Track 7 is Posession,. another cut I really liked. This one has a low bubbly start, which brought ot mind Jean Michael Jarre's En Attendant Cousteau. Then thepiano with a simple but haunting melody set the mood with later howling wind and thunder. The entire effect you can see as a piano being played in a fog enshrouded valley. The latter part of this piece began to remind me of Frank Petrucelli's Haunted Mansion soundtracks for Kevin McCurdy.
The final track is Torment, another one which clicked beautifully wqith me. The low bass instrument suddenly going into a ketteytle drum attack and into a cello melody and sudden attack notes leading into the tune going stacatto brought more to mind the Hans Zimmer soundtrack to the movie The Ring. The 2nd vverse adds the ESQ-1 choir then back to the main cello melody.
I had used all the musical references as a sort of touchstone as to what is where. This is an excellent CD which does not sound like any other haunt CD on the market today and can be used in a wide variety of themed applications. If I must give it a number, a 9 out of 10 is perfect, 'cause I dont give 10s...

I have about 20 CD's in my "Haunt Collection", and track 6 will be at the top of my picks for this year.
Most of the CD's I have purchased over the years have the same sound throughout the whole cd. This is not the case with yours. Most tracks are very unique and can be used in various settings. I to, am reminded of movie backgrounds on several tracks, as another reviewer mentioned.
I am a fan of slow, errie low based tracks for my haunt, that dis orient the guest. I think tracks 2,4 and 6 provide that sounds.
I have heard, and purchased, many better know artist CD's that yours is superior to for use in the haunt industry.
Thanks for the sample and for tracks I can use this year. I would recommend others to buy the CD. You will find something you will like, and can use, regardless of your favorite style.
