Zac Harmon
20TH Annual International Blues Challenge
Winner: "Best Unsigned Blues Band"
Zac Harmon has been expressing an unbiased love for music for well over twenty years. Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, he is a disciple of the Farish Street blues sound. Farish Street is universally recognized as the home of many great blues legends, including the late, great Elmore James.
Harmon's early years included stints as a guitarist for Z.Z. Hill, McKinley Mitchell, Dorothy Moore and Sam Myers. Moving to Los Angeles in 1980, he worked as a studio musician and began to make a name for himself as a writer/producer, crafting songs for such artists Karen White, Freddie Jackson, The Whispers, K.C. & Jo Jo, Mississippi Mass Children's Choir, Cherrelle, Alexander O'Neal and The O'Jays. Live at Babe and Ricky's Inn is the debut release from Zac Harmon as an artist and showcases Mississippi Blues at its best, introducing Harmon as a true torchbearer for keeping "down home" blues alive.
Zac Harmon and his band, the Midsouth Blues Revue, recently won the 20th International Blues Challenge (IBC) 1st place award for '"Best Unsigned Blues Band". The Blues Foundation sponsors the contest annually. The multi-talented guitarist and vocalist won the rights to compete by first winning the West Coast competition and representing the Southern California Blues Society.
The Blues Foundation started the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in order to keep the Blues alive and cultivate new talent. Blues organizations affiliated with the foundation stage regional competitions around the world and send the top unsigned artists from their region to compete in the IBC finals in Memphis. The winner receives a cash prize, studio time, appearances at several major Blues events around the country and the title of "Best Unsigned Blues Band".
Zac Harmon and the Mid South Blues Revue has enthralled West Coast audiences and is now poised to capture the world. The Mid South Blues Revue features Jeff Stone on harmonica, "Dug Mug" on bass, Rodney Millon on guitar and "Cool" Cora Coleman on drums.
