Description
Abreaction is a solo act from Chicago packed with heartfelt lyrics and melodic rhythms. The name stems from a psychological term meaning, "the purging or release of repressed emotions."
Arpan Shah, the sole member, first picked up a guitar in the summer of 1994 to join a band with his high school friends. Creative differences put a mutual end to the band, but Arpan continued to write music inspired by relationships, the search for truth, and experiences that later defined his identity. Arpan has recorded three albums under the name Abreaction. The first two were recorded with just a voice and acoustic guitar but on the third album, Arpan aimed for a more diversified sound by using other instruments including the electric guitar, bass, and even some drums.
The third album entitled Beyond These Clouds is conceptual in the sense that each song corresponds to a paragraph and can be read from beginning to end as a story. The album chronicles the struggles of a guy battling through a choice he has to make, its twist in the middle, and its reflective end.
Abreaction has performed at many of the major venues at the University of Illinois and consists of a dedicated fan base worldwide, concentrated mostly in the United States and the United Kingdom. Before the demise of MP3.com, Abreaction had over 15,000 MP3 downloads.
