Description
Her Global Folk Ensemble is led by Ken Rosser, Ross Wright, and Paul Angers, who perfom on international instruments such as the Chinese pipa, the Indian sitar, and Native American, African, and Eastern drums, to name a few.
Angela's background is a literary and poetic one, having penned four novels, and her work featured in poetry journals. Her unique use of the poetic to craft themes of elevated thought, combined with a keen harmonic sensibility, stands her enigmatic songs out from the rest.
"I've lately been yearning to reach down into the earth and create something truly organic, something that is not so much from the head, as from that other vital organ. When I started writing for this record, what came out, some dozen songs later, was this unexpected canon of loss and delusion and sacrifice and thorny paths and redemption. I kind of spooked myself. I started finding that my journey was about taking roads that were not necessarily always pleasant little strolls through the flowery meadow. Sometimes they took me to some very dark places that I felt compelled to examine. The more I excavated, the more I began to find the answers in something earthier. From the root. From something very old."
As a vocalist and recording artist who has been a fixture on the Los Angeles music scene for two decades, and who has recorded jingles, voice-overs, and CD's for herself and other artists, Angela's seasoned voice is a warm alto cry, textured with layers of rich rasp, clear tones, and deep pathos.
In 1989, her debut cd, ANGELA, on Teichiku Records, Japan, rose to #2 on Japan's pop/jazz charts.
In 1994, she authored, composed, and starred in her acclaimed one-woman show, THE PURPLE SLEEP CAFE, at the off-Broadway theatre Primary Stages.
In 1996, she created the role of "The Fabulous Miss Thing" for Elvis Schoenberg's Orchestre Surral, a wild, genre-bending orchestral music show, as performer, contributing writer, and album-cover artist, whose two CD's, AIR SURREAL and IT'S ALIVE! are also available on CDBaby. For six years, Angela was "Miss Thing" to Los Angeles audiences, until she left the orchestra to release and promote RESTING ON THE ROCK.
RESTING ON THE ROCK is truly a multi-layered musical experience that will render something new and introspective with each listening.
