BABELFISH BIOGRAPHY
Babelfish consists of Kerrin Brizzell on violin and vocals, and Tim Nash on guitar and vocals.
Kerrin was born and grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand where she started learning the violin at the age of 7. She continued to study, completing a music degree at Canterbury University and playing for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra for 10 years in the 80s. At the same time she was teaching violin privately, and music at Cashmere High School.
On moving to England in 1989 Kerrin began to develop her playing in a variety of different styles. She continued to play in orchestras and studied viola with Roger Best in London for a time before moving into the world of folk music and jazz.
Tim Nash is from London and has been playing acoustic, electric, and bass guitar in bands for many years, as well as writing songs from an early age. He is self-taught and plays many different styles including classical guitar.
Babelfish was formed in 1998 in Norwich, when Kerrin and Tim began to work together. They play a great variety of styles including traditional folk music, gypsy and East European music, a little light jazz, and arrangements of classical music. They have been working on original songs together to create their debut album called Walk into the Blue, which is a mix of folk, pop and roots styles, with strong harmonies between the two voices. The CD was released in May 2002.
Babelfish have played at Folk Clubs, Festivals and Fairs, Arts Centres, and Pubs in and around East Anglia in England for the last 3 years, and have also played at Summertimes in Christchurch, New Zealand (2001).
