Description
Amy Loftus is an artist, and no stranger to the stage. She has been a painter, a member of a dance company, a professional actress, and has been singing and writing since she found her musical voice while studying improvisation at her hometown's nationally heralded "Second City". That same year, Amy hopped up on stage with a local band and became the band's new lead singer. She immediately began writing songs within a musical partnership born in that band. To further her acting career, Amy moved to LA, where she appeared in Days of Our Lives, HBO's The Tracey Ullman Show, the controversial play "Bible Stories", and several feature films.
"In 2000 I realized that I couldn't stop writing songs even if I tried. Songwriting had chosen me." Amy sold all of her possessions and began living out of a van with her musical partner. She booked a tour and together they played in close to 40 cities. By the end of 2001, she found herself living out of her van alone in Venice Beach and unsure of what to do next. "I had never perfomed music alone before, but I had a lot of songs I'd written through the years and never played for anyone. One night in Venice I went to a crowded open mike by myself. The crowd got quiet when I sang, and I had never experienced that before. After that, I just kept getting up and writing, and playing out. I was terrified of playing guitar onstage, but I just did anyway, because I sensed I was onto something." Amy met producer Will Kimbrough during the summer of 2002 when he played a round at the Bluebird in support of his record "Home Away". "I loved Will's songs, and he is such a genuine person, good handshake, looks y'right in the eye. The following summer, we began some demos on my digital recorder and with his portable studio, some of which became tracks on the record."
