Description
So what's a gay, mixed breed Cuban doing playing rock music? Shouldn't he be in some DRAG, latin/pop band doing Gloria Estefan covers? F*** that. Ariel wants to ROCK.
From early on Ariel wanted out - out of Miami, out from underneath all the salsa music, and OUT of the closet. At 17 he did just that. He packed his bags and headed to NY with a scholarship to NYU. There he studied music and audio engineering but most importantly, started singing in his first band. A few years later he started his own. Pin Monkey was first followed by Loving the Alien, but it wasn't until he went solo that he was able to release his first recordings. ALL I WANTED was self-released on his own label (BULLY) in late 2002. Ironically, this record was a combination of rock and some of the latin grooves he so desperately tried to run away from.
FROLIC & F*** is the record he never got to record with his earlier bands. The songs on the album are some of his favorites that he wrote over the past 10 years. The HIRED GUNS, Ariel's touring band, was the perfect vehicle for these tunes. They a great musicians who can play anything but LOVE to ROCK!. Together , they went into the studio and banged out all the tracks LIVE , barring vocals a very few overdubs. The record also includes an acoustic version of The Replacements' classic "Unsatisfied".
