Description
There is no doubt that a different place is a solo album worth noticing. Jane Eamon, half of the popular folk duo, Jane & Gord, has penned 11 breath-taking tunes of startling originality. One is taken on a journey no less tasty than life itself.
The CD, a different place, opens with a childish look at life through the eyes of a ten year old. Tides and sand castles remind us of the beauty of youth. The next three tunes twist a decidely roots/blues groove declaring no woman is an island, no man is an island, especially not the president, and the first women of blues are to be cherished for their contributions to song.
Answering to the gospel, Jane pays homage to Sweet Honey in the Rock with a magical women's working song, Momma Can You Help Me. A soul stirring traditional tune, Judgement Day, follows with choir and organ.
The last few songs turn to Jane's singer/songwriter side showcasing softer, jazzier tunes complete with muted trumpet and stand-up bass. We finish the CD with what is real. The songwriter and song presented as they start, guitar and vocal.
Jane is a prolific writer. She currently writes a songwriting column, hosts a Songwriters in the Round series in the Okanagan, holds several song circles and open mics and writes songs whenever she can. Winner of several awards, most recently an honorable mention in the Billboard World Song Contest, Jane pursues her craft with relentless zeal.
