Description
The band was originally formed in 1998 by three friends Neil Bell (bassist), Jeff Fairbank (guitarist), and Matt Pavan (drums). Formerly with rock/metal band Saigon, Neil's musical influences began with David Bowie, and counts Phil Lynott and Chris Squire among his early bass heroes. He's also the band's songwriter, lyricist, and background vocalist, and was raised in Whitehaven, England. Jeff, formerly with the hard rock band Fairbank, cites Alex Lifeson and David Gilmour as his early inspirations for picking up the guitar. He also lists Ric Emmett and Stevie Ray Vaughn as big influences. He's the band's founder, songwriter, and background vocalist, and was raised in Coquitlam, BC Canada. Matt, formerly with hard rock/fusion band Future Shock, says his influences are firmly planted in the Led Zeppelin/John Bonham zone. He was also raised in Coquitlam, BC Canada.
Once the three had the band's foundation together, the hunt was on to find a singer that would complement the band's style of play. After an exhausting search of over 200 vocalists, Marnie Anderson (lead vocals) came for a tryout and a permanent stay. Formerly with Rick Colbourne in Hard Poetry, she's toured Canada and appeared on a number of albums. Her Scottish and Haida roots were influenced with a strong jazz and blues background, and she cites Stevie Wonder as an early influence. She was also raised in Coquitlam, BC Canada.
Shine has performed in one of the Harley Davidson gigs, 100 Year Celebration in Montana, with an appearance on ABC TV's morning show. Other memorable performances include backing up such bands as Kim Mitchell, Honeymoon Suite, Nazareth, Dr. Hook and the year-end party for cast & crew of the Hit TV series SMALLVILLE with Remy Zero
