Description
"Jim James & The Damn Shames," both the album and the band, have been honored recently by their local musical cohorts. The 2005 Madison Area Music Awards (Madison, Wisc.) nominated the album in the "Americana: Best Album" category and the band in the "Americana: Best Artist" category. The positive reviews for both the album and the live shows continue to be published and the band continues to work on improving their already solid set with new sounds.
Singer/Songwriter James Travis has been developing his unique rootsy style in Madison, Wisc. since moving there from Tucson, Ariz. in the late 90's. A dynamic and powerful singer, guitarist and rootin' tootin' harmonica player, James writes most of the songs that the band performs live.
Rhythm section players include Brian Bentley on drums and Jeff Hammes on acoustic upright bass. The experience and sonic bond held between these players provide one of the tightest sounds in the region.
Lead guitarist (and otherwise successful singer/songwriter) Josh Harty is the newest member of the group, having joined the band for live performances after the album was recorded in 2004. Mr. Harty brings an electrifying and impressive cache of licks and tricks to the "Damn Shames" sound; a must-see live act, to be sure.
