Description
With an eclectic blend of music and quirky lyrics, this four-piece band from Olympia has created an ambitious, diverse and curious collection of songs that you can't get out of your head.
Just Plain Bill creates a brand of well-written eclectic, quirky, pop rock that, at times, defies description and genre. Hailing from Olympia, Washington, the four members of Just Plain Bill use rich textures of vocals and instruments to polish satiric stories into little pop gems with hints of hard edge, rap, jazz, world beat, and even avant-garde.
Doug Blum and Patrick Storedahl write the skeletal frames of the songs, which the entire band (including drummer Ted Clark and guitarist Ethan Moreno) then weaves into a working sound. This working live sound relies on a loose stripped down, energetic rock approach, while the recording studio allows Just Plain Bill the opportunity to add depth and sophistication by embellishing these tunes with tiny unusual timbres and "ear-candy" that provide their listeners more bang for the buck.
The second recorded project by Just Plain Bill, Some Horrendous Joke, shows an incredible growth in their command of the studio. With a combination of a lot of vocals and the ability to include additional and sometimes exotic instruments to the sound, Some Horrendous Joke explored a territory of music first pioneered by bands like The Beatles, Queen and The Talking Heads.
