Description
Lemonpeeler has played local Boston rock clubs and pubs since being formed in the Spring of 1999. Oft compared to the Jayhawks and Matthew Sweet, their live sound falls somewhere into the genre of roots-rock & pop music. But listen to the recordings and you will notice that this is more than a derivative alt-country band: excellent songs with melodic hooks, a distinctive voice, sweet harmonies and gritty electric guitar lines that travel well beyond a conveniently placed comparison.
Lemonpeeler's acclaimed debut CD ("The First Time") was released in the winter of 2001, followed by a US tour and some marvelous press from the Boston Globe (Jonathan Perry's feature), The Chicago Reader (Monica Kendrick) and a Boston Music Award nomination for Indie Debut Album just to name a few. In the fall of '02, the band put out a 6 song EP which landed two songs in the internationally distributed motion picture "A Touch of Fate" starring Teri Hatcher. Lemonpeeler's first two releases were co-produced and engineered by David Minehan (the Neighborhoods/Westerberg) at Woolly Mammoth Sound in Boston.
Lemonpeeler lead singer/songwriter Michael Hayes spent the past year focused on another project that is closely tied to Lemonpeeler called the Vinyl Skyway. One of the songs on the album, released this past fall, contains a Lemonpeeler performance (20 Feet Under).
Lemonpeeler reunited in October with all founding members to support Michael's new release with the Vinyl Skyway at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge. The group also participated in the International Pop Overthrow at the Middle East for the second straight year. Though under the musical radar since 2002, the band (Hayes, Booth Hardy, Rob Pevitts, Jim Eddy, Andy Santospago) plan to record a new album in 2005 after relocating to the west coast. Stay tuned!!!
