Walking Rain
Walking Rain is the name the Indians of New Mexico gave to fast summer rainstorms that sweep across the desert, leaving the air and ground refreshed. Walking Rain is also the name of a band formed by Bob Bruen and Coale Johnson. Their music covers the open spaces between folk, country, blues and swing in a simple, natural way that leaves the ears refreshed.
The idea for the band was hatched during a front porch jam session at Coale's ranch in the Eastern Sierra and Walking Rain was officially formed 6 months later in Santa Fe where Bob lives. Walking Rain is not Bob and Coale's first band together; they have been playing music together for over 25 years in a wide variety of styles.
Bob plays mandolin, guitar and sings. He has been involved with some of the leading musicians in the Blue Grass/New Acoustic movement and has performed with David Grisman, Vasser Clements and Mike Marshall.
Coale plays guitar, electric bass and sings. He performed and recorded extensively while pursuing a degree in music at Depaul University in Chicago and Berkelee School of Music in Boston. Coale has been playing folk and blues since he as a child in the Midwest and has two internationally released jazz CDs of original music. He has recorded with the great jazz drummer, George Marsh, as well as percussionist, Karl Perazzo, and bassist Benny Reitveld, both from Santana.
