Description
Anthony Nestor has been a guitarist, composer, poet and philosopher for twenty years. His debut CD, Night of the Poet, is a record about seeking; about coming to terms with love, language, loss, and the longing to be free; both in the materialistic sense, and, more importantly, in the spiritual sense.
As a guitarist Anthony has created a unique sound and style that is rhythmically complex, harmonically rich and melodically fluid; and while his playing impresses guitar aficionados and lay people alike, his music emphasizes a strong marriage between complex guitar work, tuneful melodies, artful arrangements and well-crafted poetry. While some of his songs employ fairly standard songwriting structures, others blend pop song sensibilities with a symphonic sense of movement, giving the songs an epic and dramatic flavor.
Anthony's lyrics are at once clever, honest, philosophically rich and meaningful. Beginning with "Night of the Poet"a story of a wayward phantom poet still seeking fruitlessly for Truth through wordsand ending with "The Cure"a tale of spiritual surrenderAnthony's songs take the listener on interpersonal journeys through the process of becoming. In this sense Anthony's work is deeply spiritual, though it is in no way New Agey or sentimental. The intensity of this music does draw your attention inward, but it's expressive quality, tunefulness and drive keep it from being exclusively introspective.
Along with eight vocal tracks, Night of the Poet features two instrumental tracks, one a duet with violin, and the other a solo guitar piece celebrating the beauty of a rare sunny day in Seattle. Anthony is joined on many of these tracks by some of the Bay Area's finer musicians, including Kathy Buys on violin, Jenya Chernoff on drums, Myles Boisen on bass, and Dawn McCarthy on vocals.
