Nox Arcana invites you to embark on a musical journey throughout the haunted halls of a gothic mansion...
THE CONCEPT - - - - - - - -
Darklore Manor is based on the tales of a legendary haunted house near Salem, Massachusetts. Various news articles and rumors were taken into consideration when creating this storyline, which centers around the disappearance of three teenagers who set out to hold a sance in the house on Halloween night several years ago. The concept of the album is a version of what took place in the house on that fateful night.
The story itself lies somewhere between Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher and H.P. Lovecraft's The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. It's also reminiscent of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. This real-life ghost story has all the elements of a classic horror tale-an old mansion with a dark history, a cursed bloodline, tales of black magic, murder, and vengeful ghosts.
BIOGRAPHY - - - - - - - -
Joseph Vargo is an internationally acclaimed artist whose visions of gothic fantasy have graced the covers of books, magazines and cds worldwide. He began his artistic career in 1991 and achieved worldwide status by 1993 with the release of a series of art collections entitled "Born of the Night." In 1998, as a member of the band Midnight Syndicate, Vargo applied his musical influence and trademark title "Born of the Night" to the band's breakthrough release, which he conceived and produced. Vargo radically altered Midnight Syndicate's sound, giving the band a new direction and streamlining their experimental mix of styles to focus exclusively on a darker sound that would appeal to his established gothic audience. In 1999, Vargo directed the follow-up release "Realm of Shadows," and in the following years, he created various artistic projects; most notably to date is "The Gothic Tarot" and the illustrated gothic anthology "Tales from the Dark Tower." In 2003, Vargo returned to the music arena with his new project Nox Arcana and began to compose the ghostly melodies and lyrics for the band's debut CD "Darklore Manor." Vargo's avid interest in horror writer H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos served as the inspiration for Nox Arcana's second album, "Necronomicon."
William Piotrowski began his professional music career at the early age of 15 when he was hired to create the musical score for an independent video production entitled "Ghosts of Ohio". In 2003, he joined forces with Joseph Vargo to compose and engineer the foreboding orchestrations for "Darklore Manor." He plays several instruments including guitar and keyboards, and is well versed in midi and digital recording technology. William's interests in the realm of the supernatural are reflected in his dark, symphonic compositions.

"Darklore Manor is a breathtaking combination of music and artistic creativity. This cd really reminded me of some of my favorite horror movie soundtracks, and I wouldn't be surprised if some savvy Hollywood producer approaches the band to compose the score to a major horror film sometime in the near future. This is awesome stuff!"

"Joseph Vargo and his partner William Piotrowski for Nox Arcana bring back the sounds that made Midnight Syndicate famous. Darklore Manor continues the legacy... and gives fans of Midnight Syndicate what they've been craving most... maintaining strong musical compositions instead of becoming overdone with sound-effects like most seasonal releases.
