Description
She's Norah Jones with an edge! Smooth, honest, sweet, and lush... Exciting, pumping, vivacious and real...
A soulful singer and songwriter, Mary Gatchell has been hitting the New York City scene at such places as the world famous Blue Note, Knitting Factory Main Space and Tap Bar, Bitter End, and CB's Gallery. Her piano playing style, powerful lyrics, and haunting melodies have a unique way of drawing the listener into her world. Her first studio album, "Indigo Rose", released in January 2005, is a collection of her compositions ranging from hard hitting rock tunes to intimate love songs with many wonderful ground breaking surprises in between!
From the small town of Epping, New Hampshire, Mary cultivated her musical talents in voice, piano, and oboe and then took them to New York. She is a graduate of New York University where she majored in Theory and Composition and has played in Carnegie Hall a handful of times with the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra. In 2003, Mary was named Indie Artist of the Year in The Alternative News, a nationally distributed music magazine. She has played in clubs all over New England, New York, and Pennsylvania, and continues to branch out as her fan base grows.
Mary Gatchell's velvet voice and alluring charm has a refreshing, unique style all her own. Her passion for expressing herself and connecting with her audience come through in every moment of her performance. Whether playing solo or with her band, Mary's sensitive, honest, and powerful expression leaves an indelible mark.
