Description
Here it is! Ekayani and the Healing Bands first full length album, entitled ( appropriately enough) "FULL LENGTH." Featuring 13 tracks of mostly unreleased compositions ( five songs were heard on Ekayani's original EP "Ekayani Studio Collection-available at cdbaby), all spiffed up and beautifully mastered at the Engine Room, Full Length introduces us to a musical enchantress who merges far off cultures and intruigingly juxtaposes musical styles. This exotically seasoned mix--with hints of French, Sanskrit, Brazil and West Africa--claims an eclectic lineage that embraces so many things...from jazz and rock to world soul.
A few years ago, when the singer/songwriter Ekayani was a model in Paris (don't act surprised!) she had the good fortune to meet the gifted guitarist and composer Paul Mahoux with whom a happy collaboration took shape. In 1999 the songstress formed Ekayani and the Healing Band in her native New York where the group played such venues as Baby Jupiter, ACME Underground, Arlene's Grocery, The Sidewalk Cafe and The C-Note. Other interesting venues and events soon beckoned--Nuyorican Poets cafe, the Underground Music and Poetry festival, the Avignon/New York Film Festival, the Howl! Festival--and Ekayani began making live radio appearances (WBAI's "The Light Show") and her EP even lingered for a while on the top 40 playlist of "The Liquid Sound Lounge." Recently Ekayani and the Healing Band has performed at The Bowery Poetry Club.
