Description
Jovian Oblivion is a music project created by solo artist Brent Matney, from southwestern Virginia. Jovian Oblivion's first album "Eye of the Mind," is a sonic voyage delving into musical realms and lyrical topics that are seldom explored. Jovian Oblivion can be categorized as modern rock with industrial and electronic elements featuring bizarre guitar tunings, electronic drums/percussion, thick vocal harmonies and spaced-out synthesizer, bass and guitar sounds with blistering metaphoric lyrics covering a wide range of topics.
Frustrated with the current state of modern mainstream music, Brent wanted to implement his own unique musical vision pulling from the influence of artists and bands from many genres including rock, industrial, jazz, electronica, funk, new age, metal and blues. This musical vision was financially and technologically impossible until a few years ago. Thanks to modern advances in digital recording on the PC, sophisticated drum looping software and amp modeling technologies, Brent was able to successfully produce a quality album without breaking the bank and without compromise. The songs on "Eye of the Mind" are bold, diverse, sometimes eclectic and occasionally improvised, but still structured and formatted as songs are in mainstream popular music. "Eye of the Mind" covers a wide variety of lyrical topics including politics, imagination, seclusion, betrayal, paranoia, hypocrisy, dissention, frustration, deception, internet pornography, apocalypse, regret, blame, cynicism and hope.
