Description
Gertrude are an inventive four piece who are firmly rooted within an eclectic post punk landscape, one that is deeply invigorated by the rich sounds from the electric Cello, Clarinet and lately the Melodica. A unique experience.
At the beginning of 1997, gertrude burst forth like a shot from a cannon right in front of the admiring eyes of London's underground artsy/squat scene. Everyone in the band is in control. they have no leaders -they formed as a collective from the outset. The bands commitment to radical ways of organising and managing themselves is also realised musically by the rhythmical interplay between different band members and by having three main vocalists who weave in an out of multi layered songs.
Their debut album ‘Up the wrong Tree‘ was recorded in 10 days. Organ online e-zine reviews the album and states:
