Description
Part of the American South's enduring heritage is the rich tradition of hymns and spirituals that have been popular for many generations--sung at church, at revivals, at camp meetings . . . and at home.
These are songs that were, and are, part of the lives of millions of Americans--powerful melodies that stay in the mind.
Jim Gibson grew up playing these hymns--when Jim was young, his father would pay him a dime for each hymn he memorized--later raised to a quarter--so Jim has known and loved these songs for many years.
His unusual style comes from years of working as a pianist in many different situations--and from growing up in a very musical household, where his mother was a piano teacher, and his sister is also now a professional pianist.
You'll enjoy these warm, melodic, and often quiet versions of these classic melodies from our shared past.
