i saw the sun explode (EP.1)
good evening
New York indie rock full of melodic corners, harmonic walls, dark windows and bright doorways, reminiscent of the likes of Radiohead, Interpol, and Death Cab for Cutie.

Description
NYC indie group GOOD EVENING has now released what may come to be considered to be their Rosetta Stone. "i saw the sun explode" is a collection of five new songs that demonstrate a coherent new identity for the group, music that is at once grandly expansive and highly concentrated, a band that sounds like the brainchild of late Radiohead and early Police.
While the EP was recorded and mixed in only three days at Bushwick Studio in Brooklyn, NY (shortly after The Bravery finished recording their self-titled debut there), the actual songwriting process stretches back to late 2003, when the finishing touches were put on the structure of "Backbone", the EP's epic closer. The band (David Cloyd on guitar/vocals, Michael Oliverio on bass), which had just added second guitarist Jeremy Voss, had been kicking around about a dozen other song ideas in various stages of completion. But when the various complexities of "Backbone" were finished, the band's future identity was suddenly revealed.
The song "Backbone" is densely layered and intricately arranged - while it may superficially adhere to an A/B/A structure, the song never repeats itself in terms of its arrangement, and it was that philosophy of layered arrangements that governed the creative process for the 4 remaining songs on the EP. The opener "Early" is a slowly building fire that suddenly rages out of control. The beautiful "Faster" turns a single bright chiming guitar into lush swirling trap of chords interlaced with captivating melodies. The EP's middle epic, "The Spark I Was", grows from an incredibly sparse bass melody into a full-fledged wall of sound, and "Go On" is a sudden left turn into the oncoming traffic of NYC indie rock.
