Description
"In my 10+ years of performing, I have never given a background vocalist as much free reign as Sol. The dude is an incredible talent." - Eric Roberson
The quote says it all. The voice is sincere, warm, strong and soothing. That voice belongs to SolEdler. "Sol," as he is known by most of his counterparts, is short for soldier-the meaning of his birth name, Troy. It also is the perfect description of his style of music, even if spelled differently.
Born in Washington, DC and brought up in its suburb of P.G. County, Maryland, Sol was taught the fundamentals and extensions of vocals in church singing with his sister and mother, then further honing his skills in Durham, NC in choirs in and around his alma mater, North Carolina Central University (with friend and classmate, Yahzarah).
After returning home, Sol made a name for himself in D.C.'s open-mic/poetry scene doing a combination of spoken word and singing when he happened upon a local act, Zwei and embarked on what can only be described as an expose' in D.C./MD/No.Va's talent pool-Song of Solomon.
Blending soul with all its roots and offspring, Song of Solomon explores old-school, 80's, hip-hop & neo-soul with an occassional splash of jazz for a truly loaded 11 song 14 track masterpiece.
