Description
Singer/songwriter Steven Franz was born and raised in Miami, Florida. A self-taught pianist, Franz began writing songs in high school. He graduated from New World School of the Arts and was awarded a performance scholarship to attend Boston's Berklee College of Music. After a brief stint in Boston, Franz decided to head back to Florida.
Franz continued to pursue his passion for music while studying business at the University of Florida. After graduating, Franz moved to Atlanta, Georgia for an internship and to perform and record with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Choir under the direction of Robert Shaw. Franz recorded on the ASOC's Grammy nominated, "Grand & Glorious Great Operatic Choruses" album.
Franz then returned to Miami to start his business career, landing a two-year position as Assistant Business Manager for recording artist Julio Iglesias. "When I started making money, the first thing I did was buy a Roland JV1000 Music Workstation and a grand piano," says Franz. Franz began writing and performing original songs with local band West 40 Terrain. He also began to learn guitar to open up new creative avenues. "It was a tremendous growth period for me, learning to work with a band, recording for the first time, and strengthening my live performance and writing abilities."
After West 40 Terrain, Franz joined New Relics, an acoustic folk/pop trio, with whom he continues to write and perform with today.
Franz's first solo album, "The One You Choose", is a collection of original songs dealing with self awareness, relationships, and doubling one's wardrobe. The final track, "Not the Same World", is a reflection on the events of September 11, 2001. Franz self-produced the CD, arranging and programming all tracks.
