Description
"Organic Music grown here" is a slogan that is hand painted on a tin sign outside Rick Droit's home.Droit is one of the New Breed of Americana Songwriters effortlessly melding new traditions with a dose of the Old West, his songs can make you feel like you're sipping a hot cup of Coffee while sitting around a campfire, so it's easy to see why folks are talking about Droit.
Droit expertly blends styles such as folk, blues, country and rock complete with a sprinkle of Humor which results in a very entertaining show.
Droit's Great-Grandfather Reno played Bluegrass and Swing during the Great Depression touring with such people as Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller. Rick grew up listening to his Grandparents play Mandolin & Guitar and later his sister "Cricket" gave him the rock & folk albums that would also later help shape his sound..one of his first solo performances was in Nevada in 1988 where Droit performed for the National protest to stop underground nuclear testing at the Nevada test site in the Humboldt National Forest. In 1991 he moved to Southern Illinois and began performing solo at coffeehouses, cafes, restaurants and bars around the small college town of Carbondale. it was there that Droit would fall in with a talented bunch of folks such as Robbie Stokes (Mickey Hart, Shawn Colvin, Quicksilver Messenger Service), Dave Parrish (Buddy Guy) and others, he also gave benefit performances for Friends for Native Americans, The Student Democratic Convention, NORML, The Battered Women's Center and The Black Diamond Ranch's protest to Save the Shawnee Forest from being cut & sold to non U.S. interests.
In 1996 Rick Droit moved to to Austin Texas to pursue his solo career. Droit soon began to perform his originals at Babes on Sixth Street, The 503 Coffee bar and The Pecan Street Festival as well as attending and performing informally to a whole new audience of fans at The Kerrville Folk Festival (this included a suprise Televised appearance on Swiss/German Set 3 TV).
Later that year Droit went into the studio to record this first studio album 'Gypsy Love" which includes the festival favorite "Sidewinder" and the Americana chart topping "Morning in December" and a short tour followed.
In 1998 Summer Droit was voted by popular demand to perform on the Threadgill stage at the Kerrville Folk Festival to an enthusiastic packed house, after much touring across the U.S. Droit released "Laughing like a Banshee" in 2000.
Droit enjoyed chart success again with "Sleepy Hollow" featuring a duet with Laura Freeman, the song has remained in Soundclick's top 10 folk music charts for over 2 years.
Droit has been broadcast on both television and radio domestically and abroad and is a published poet, cartoonist and establsihed painter of fantasy art. (WW1 French Artist Jean Droit is one of Rick's ancestors)Droit's writing touches on emotional and & political issues as well as love & spirituality. Rick has a soaring clear voice and thoughtful lyrics; his shows are considered suitable for the entire family and much like the foods he prefers Rick Droit's songs contain Nothing Artificial, No Additives, No Fluorocarbons or MSG, just sweet organic home-grown Music
