Description
Tripdavon seems to be the result of a happy coincidence of individually accomplished musicians who happened onto each other at the right time in the right place... Guitarist and small time producer Greg Doscher met funk bass phenom Dave Heer through a mutual friend in late 2003 and soon after began collaborating on a musical project that was being recorded in Greg's closet-sized college bedroom. This project also included some amazingly original material from guitarist Adam Coons who happened to be Greg's neighbor at the time. Some of these early recordings would be developed into the songs that appear on Tripdavon's debut album...but that's later. In the meantime Greg, Adam, and Dave had decided that they needed a good drummer and singer to develop the sound further and to play a couple of live shows that were being worked out for the end of the month. While guitarists seem to be a dime a dozen in Southern California, a good singer and a solid drummer can prove to be elusive. Fortunately, the search for both proved to be a lot simpler than anyone could have suspected when Russ Cummings called Dave out of the blue one day after having heard through a string of friends about a bass that Dave had recently acquired. Figuring he must be a good bassist for the caliber of instrument that he purchased, Russ invited the guys over to jam that evening at both he and Justin Fox's studio. Russ Cummings and Justin Fox grew up in Santa Barbara and spent the early part of their high school friendship writing and recording songs together with a plastic karaoke microphone and an old beat up computer. Russ began drumming when he was only six years old, studying an array of styles from Jazz to Metal which would eventually lead to his unique style in Tripdavon. Justin Fox began singing when he was five years old, recording a rendition of "New York, New York" in a novelty recording booth at an amusement park. After years of developing writing skills together and working in various bands, Russ would make that fateful call to Dave. The dynamic of the music being churned out by Greg, Adam and Dave combined with Justin's inspired melodies and Russ' drum core and jazz influenced rhythms turned out to be way beyond what anyone had expected. After several rehearsals and an explosive show to a packed beachside balcony in Isla Vista two weeks later, Tripdavon was officially born. After an impressive year of venues throughout Southern California, and the completion of a debut album that was entirely self-written and self-produced in Justin Fox's own studio, Tripdavon's pace has not let up. By bringing back elements of a pure, driven, soulful, rock sound and pushing it one step further, Tripdavon had stumbled upon an unmistakably powerful style that absolutely sets them apart from their contemporaries. Driven by their remarkable individual talent and passion for their instruments, as well as a collective love for the craft of music in general, Tripdavon has a momentum that promises to push them and their sound well beyond the bounds of Southern California.
