Description
Juana Maria Camilleri was born in Mallorca, Spain and raised in New York. Her mother, Stephanie, is an artist, writer and astrologer. Her father, Charlie, was a New York jazz musician.
When Juana was eight, her mother gave her an old, nylon-string guitar. After learning a few folk songs, she began to write her own. She was shy about her music and only shared it with a select few.
Acting was a different story. She studied drama and appeared in several stage performances. At The University of Hartford, in Connecticut, she focused on theater as her minor.
In '91, she moved west, to Portland, Oregon, where she studied film at The Northwest Film Center. For over a decade, she hadn't touched her guitar, which lived in the back of the closet. But while making films, she began to dream songs. She she got out that dusty guitar and, again, began to write.
Three years later, she finished her first CD, titled "Now," recorded near Silver Lake, in LA. And last year, she came out with "Palisades," written and recorded in Seattle. Currently she is on the east coast, working on her third CD, which she plans to release in January, 2004.
