Description
Jules Bitter is a well known and respected musician in the Celtic folkscene of Holland and Belgium. He travelled and played in Ireland a lot, and it is there he was inspired to develope his unique way of playing the whistle and the flute.
About 1980 he started to play as a street musician in Antwerp (Belgium) and there he played at late night pubsessions with musicians that also made a career in Irish music : Thomas Keenan, brother of piper Paddy Keenan, Kieran Fahey and Helen Flaherty (Shantalla) Rudi Velghe and Gerard Hirsch (Orion) and Philip Masure (Comas).
Jules played in many groups and in 1993 he founded his own band Finglas and soon made "Water(E)Motion", a succesfull and non-conventional audiotape with traditional music and some of his own compositions.
His sensitive and passionate style can be heard on his cd Druid dance which was reviewed as one of the best nether-celtic cds. (New Folksounds)
In this, what he calls "bardic experience of music, poetry and dance", Jules created and arranged a breath taking musical journey and timeless experience, that brings you in contact with the spirit of the celtic music.
At the moment he has his own teaching practice : www.fluitpraxis.com and is teacher for S.V.N. the dutch ass. of folkmusic.
He recently made the first step-by-step whistle-method in the dutch language : Basiscursus whistle (book and cd)
He recently made 2 ethnomusical documentaries for dutch radio (V.P.R.O.) :
about the singing cauldrons of Brittany and the bronze-, and iron age horns of Ireland.
