Description
Lara Herscovitch is a unique and charismatic singer-songwriter on the rise: her original music is a skillful blend and variety of folk, pop, and Latin styles. Her songs are smart, poetic and witty, merging soulful melodies with lyrical depth, humor and insight. She is "a remarkable performer" (WSHU), sings with a voice "clear and smooth like expensive liquor" (Northeast Performer), and whether "complemented by her band or going solo, Lara charms her audience with warmth and humor" (Rhapsody In Brew).
Sin Tierra, her self-produced debut album, covers a wide range of topics, from the personal to the global, including the humor of the human condition, as in Greener Grass:
*She wants to change her height, wants to change her hair, she wants to change her skin
*Maybe she'd be better off if she could change this sorry state she's in
*Imagine if other animals behaved like we do
*We'd be setting up therapy centers in the wild and every zoo...
Or on the frustrations of this technological age, as in Island of Blissful Ignorance:
*take your corrupted politicians, and all those shopping malls
*take your marketing, selling/telling us we should be ken and barbie dolls
*take your meetings and your office speak and all the new paradigms
*take your tired old depressing songs (except for mine)...

Her record company, "La Rama" (the branch), represents the philosophy behind Lara's writing and music - learning from the roots of different musical styles, especially folk and Latin, and branching from those foundations in a new direction. The tree is also a symbol of the company's ethic of social responsibility, including its policy of donating 10% of all CD sales to nonprofit environmental organizations.
