Description
Third Wheel’s first performance was held at Lakeview Auditorium in Warsaw, Indiana. It was the annual talent show and Jeremy Babcock and Shawn Schlag were on stage singing the Simon and Garfunkel classic, Homeward Bound. It was 1992. The harmonies have grown since then as well as their love for performing live music.
Jeremy began writing songs when he was a young boy growing up in Indiana. Banging out rhythms on a shoebox and recording melodies into a tape recorder, he was learning how to turn his observations into song. One of his first songs, Margi’s on a Motorcycle, was a living room hit. It was a song about a family friend and her struggles with dating:
“Margi’s on a Motorcycle
She will be out late
Even though she doesn’t have a date
Margi’s on a Motorcycle
So you better watch out
Cause Margi’s on her motorcycle tonight.”
Not the most profound lyrics, but these early writings would eventually shape the observational songwriting that has become a cornerstone of the Third Wheel sound.
The Third Wheel “sound” really took shape when Jeremy and Shawn formed a musical partnership during their high school days. Shawn had always been actively involved in music and has always had a love for harmony. He relishes the challenge of adding unique and awe-inspiring harmonies to melodies. The combination of well-crafted songs and the vocal blend of the two voices have driven Third Wheel to continue to sing and play for all kinds of people in all kinds of places.
Some of those places include:
Nursing Homes, Laundromats, Living Rooms, Kitchens, Street Corners, Basements, Garages, and some more notable venues include:
Dame Leo’s-Muncie, Indiana
On-Cue-Warsaw, Indiana
Uncommon Ground-Chicago, Illinois
Old Town School of Folk Music’s Folk and Roots Festival- Chicago, Illinois
WLUW 88.7- Chicago, Illinois
