Description
"Blue Guitar" is an album by an artist who was called one of America's finest guitarists by the time he was 17. He wandered through the musical landscape, never staying in one place very long, never laying down roots with any one band or group of musicians. Tom Christopher may have been guilty of making guitar playing look too easy. Because it was quite easy for him he always thought there must be more and went on to play many other instruments from piano to blues harp to sitar. Aside from being an extraordinary instrumentalist Tom has always been and continues to be a prolific songwriter. "Blue Guitar" features his songwriting side and to date this is the only recording of his available to the public. The album includes a long list of guest performers: John Hall, Larry Hoppen & Bob Leinbach from Orleans, John Sebastian of Lovin Spoonful fame, Eric Weissberg (Dueling Banjos), Robbie Dupree, Harvey Brooks and the drums and percussion triumvirate of Andy Newmark, Eric Parker and Bashiri Johnson. Often haunting, often lonely, always personal tunes offered up in typical Tom Christopher under stated fashion. Many of these songs were born in a small unheated, snow covered cabin far off the beaten path. Tom would venture down into civilization just long enough to record a tune or two and then disappear to his mountain top hideaway once again. There have been rumblings for some time that Tom was going to compile many of his unreleased recordings onto a new CD or two or three. There has even been word that there is an exquisite blues album in the can, featuring some ripping guitar. We can only hope that CD and others will someday see the light of day. Til then listen to and enjoy Tom Christopher's long lost "Blue Guitar".
