STORY - - - - - - - -
The Necronomicon is a book said to have been written in 730 A.D. by the Mad Arab, Abdul Alhazred. The sinister book of shadows is said to contain arcane knowledge of the Elder Gods, the ancient lords of darkness that held dominion over the Earth aeons ago. Believed to hold the key to opening forgotten gateways between worlds, the text prophesies the return of the Great Old Ones and contains forbidden rituals of summoning that will bring about their resurrection.
Now, in honor of H.P. Lovecraft, Nox Arcana presents a spellbinding tribute to the Cthulhu Mythos with this dark symphony. Necronomicon is a powerful and sinister soundtrack to evoke your darkest nightmare.
BIOGRAPHY - - - - - - - -
Joseph Vargo is an internationally acclaimed artist whose visions of gothic fantasy have graced the covers of books, magazines and cds worldwide. He began his artistic career in 1991 and achieved worldwide status by 1993 with the release of a series of art collections entitled "Born of the Night." In 1998, as a member of the band Midnight Syndicate, Vargo applied his musical influence and trademark title "Born of the Night" to the band's breakthrough release, which he conceived and produced. Vargo radically altered Midnight Syndicate's sound, giving the band a new direction and streamlining their experimental mix of styles to focus exclusively on a darker sound that would appeal to his established gothic audience. In 1999, Vargo directed the follow-up release "Realm of Shadows," and in the following years, he created various artistic projects; most notably to date is "The Gothic Tarot" and the illustrated gothic anthology "Tales from the Dark Tower." In 2003, Vargo returned to the music arena with his new project Nox Arcana and began to compose the ghostly melodies and lyrics for the band's debut CD "Darklore Manor," a gothic soundtrack based on a legendary haunted house near Salem, Massachusetts. Vargo's avid interest in horror writer H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos served as the inspiration for Nox Arcana's second album, "Necronomicon."
William Piotrowski began his professional music career at the early age of 15 when he was hired to create the musical score for an independent video production entitled "Ghosts of Ohio". In 2003, he joined forces with Joseph Vargo to compose and engineer the foreboding orchestrations for "Darklore Manor." He plays several instruments including guitar and keyboards, and is well versed in midi and digital recording technology. William's interests in the realm of the supernatural are reflected in his dark, symphonic compositions.

"If you have a lover of horror and great spooky music on your holiday buying list, then I have a great gift recommendation for you. It's the latest CD from Nox Arcana called Necronomicon. This CD is music inspired by and dedicated to legendary horror writer H.P. Lovecraft. It's an album of orchestra style music of the darkest variety--orchestrations, gothic choirs, eerie voices and ominous chants. Beautiful and haunting, this cd sets the mood perfectly for tales of mythic creatures from beyond the plane of mortal existence. The Necronomicon is the mythical book told of in Lovecraft stories that contains the key to unlocking the portals that hold the ancient gods from this mortal plane of existence. I highly recommend this disc, and it's the perfect horror mood music any time of year. And be sure to check out their first release as well, Darklore Manor. Both cds are perfect gifts for any horror lover on your list!"

"Here's my review of their excellent CD... Nox Arcana do a fine line in creepy symphonic gothic electronic metal. As you could guess from the name, [Necronomicon] was inspired by the mythos of one Howard Phillips Lovecraft. The brief spoken word bits on this CD are from the great man's work. For once, a band, or in this case a duo, have fully realised the creeping menace that is the Cthulhu mythos. Admirers of HPL's work will recognise the names of the tracks including Yog-Sothoth, Nyarlathotep, The Black Pharaoh and Cthulhu. There are 21 tracks of symphonic eerieness on here. The right balance is struck between tunefullness and the sense of dread. One can truly say that the reading of Lovecraft and his successors now have a soundtrack. Those of us who continue to add to the mythos genre will have some audio inspiration should we need it. This is by far the best audio or visual piece inspired by Lovecraft's work to emerge in a very long time." 5/5 * * * * *
