"Renburke calls on the best for his new disc"
Reviewer: Bob Gulla, The Providence Phoenix (click for website)
A wealth of talent...a triumph...stunning for its incredible array of styles, if not for its vast ambition...everything from pop and rock to Celtic and contemporary folk.
"Highly recommended"
Reviewer: Rick Massimo, The Providence Journal
...from Celtic to Tin Pan Alley -- and half power pop. Highly recommended...
The latest (2005) from the sublime alt-pop recording artist, also found on Not Lame Records. Breaking any existing album format molds, this unique and entertaining collection of upbeat and multifarious songs is actually a double EP (5-song power-pop/roots rock & 5-track Celtic-folk-pop) followed by a 12-song album "The Apocryphal Compilation" (plus a 13th bonus track, original version of which sold over 2 million copies in just four days)
About the Recording...
The Rock EP was recorded in New England at Red Dog Studio and The Charlton House, and mastered at Northeastern Digital. It features the talents of a dozen guest musicians, including Ted Ansani (Material Issue), Dan Pepin (Letdown), Bob Giusti (The Schemers), as well as CD Baby artists Dave Dill, John Larson (The Marlowes), and drummer Shawn Leonard (Stefan Couture & The Campfire Orchestra).
The Roots EP was recorded on location in Japan and the US, including Lakewest Recording in East Greenwich, RI. Guests include Phil Edmonds and Mance Grady (both ex-Pendragon), Otis Read, Atwater-Donnelly, Irish singer/songwriter Brian Cullen, and CD Baby artist Dick Bolt (The Tullamore Celtic Band).
The Apocryphal Compilation is a collection of songs performed by various artists, co-produced and/or co-written by Mark Renburke in the 13 year period, 1992-2005. Features tracks from Velcro Chestwig, Raygun Vegans, Paddy & The Leper Khans, and 9 other legengary acts.
