Description
In the beginning, there was Chicago Transit Authority, with it's ground-breaking blend of Pop and Jazz ... featuring the songs and the singing of Robert Lamm. This avant music developed and found incredible international success with more than a few albums.
But, Chicago, the band, evolved into something other than what it started out as, and has not recorded much new music for over a decade, and is unlikely to do so in the near future.
Enter, or actually, re-enter, Robert Lamm with his fourth solo album "sublety&passion". Here is a new collection of songs which will remind you of the eclectic approach of those early Chicago albums.
If you've missed Chicago, the original version, then you might be surprised and delighted to hear this familiar voice and these new songs which seem like long lost friends.
Lamm says: "I've been attempting with this new album "subtlety&passion" and my previous album, "In My Head" to create a hybrid of rich harmonic structure, loops, with 'world' beats, samples, great live players, with melodies. I wanted to avoid 'one chord' songs, as much we get that from otherwise really great young singers, rappers, and bands."
Recorded over the past three years, in very intense and focused sessions, Lamm had the luxury of being able to 'live with' the work in progress, or 'get away' from the project while still constantly touring with Chicago. "I use the analogy of a painter who works on a canvas, a little or alot at a time. He puts it aside, comes back to it over and over, takes away, adds, changes until he can stop, feeling he is finished. With this one."
