Description
Boston singer/songwriter Rosanna Lee has an unusual story to tell. There are hundreds of female singer/songwriters who have begun their performing careers in Boston, and some like Bonnie Raitt, Tracy Chapman, and Jonatha Brooke have gone on to make a big splash far beyond the Charles. Unlike the rest however, Rosanna is probably the only one who has created a tiny DIY record label whose debut release won the Boston Music Award for "Best Folk/Acoustic Album" (for the 1999 compilation CD "Can You Read This Boston?") and who has been a talent scout for a national record label (Vanguard Records) before pursuing a career of her own.
In April 2002, she continued in the long tradition of Boston street and subway performers by heading to the Park Street station with about 40 songs and a head of steam. After playing the subway stops and main drags of Boston and Cambridge all spring and summer, Rosanna entered the studio for the first time in September 2002 with Boston producer Tom Dube (Aimee Mann, Martin Sexton) to record her debut CD, "The Girl With The Red Guitar."
"The Girl With The Red Guitar" is a solo acoustic affair featuring ten original folk/rock tracks. The disc is a Big Girl Records release, and in keeping with the label's original mission of creating a bridge of support from songwriters to literacy, 10% of the profits from it will be contributed to Reach Out And Read, a national organization whose mission is to make literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care, so that children grow up with books and a love of reading.
