"This CD brings together Knitting Factory Record Artists Zony Mash, featuring Wayne Horvitz (Bill Frisell oftentime producer) with songwriting genius Donald Rubinstein.
This work stays more 'in the pocket' than some of Rubinstein's previous efforts but still touches on elements of folk, jazz, rock, blues and country, including a 17 minute finale, DEMON BLUES.
This recording was co-executive produced by actor ED HARRIS and grew out of Ed's admiration for Donald's earlier effort with guitarist Bill Frisell, TIME AGAIN. "

Rubinstein sings like an animal, his emotions untrammeled by technique, his grizzled voice cracking with half-ironical desperation or descending to a conversational murmur. "Fire Whirl" is a lovely bit of two-beat C & W ("You're a sky/of green blue/diamonds fallin'/down upon the earth") with some convincing country pickin? from the guitar wild man Timothy Young, while "River of Love"soars on gospel hopes with Robin Holcomb adding inspired harmony."
