Description
Singer/Songwriter Kari Tieger writes and sings primarily about spiritual growth and relationships, sharing her unique perspective on life. Her compositions range anywhere from dramatic gothic love songs, or a plea of hope for the future, to the theme for a WPRO (ABC affiliate) radio call-in counseling talk show (1989-91). Part of her "Suite des Saisons" was recently used in August of 2004 for a promo on MTV.
Kari is a keyboard/vocalist. She released her debut hour-long CD, "Touch of Magic," in December of 1998 (Tiger Sound), for which she brought in many talented local players. Being bilingual for a number of years, Kari writes and sings in French, and released this collection of poetry, songs, and instrumentals, entitled "En franais, s'il te plait" in November of 2001.
Kari also teaches piano and encourages her students to compose. Her music is an eclectic blend of contemporary pop with New Age, jazz, and classical influences.
Currently working with percussionist Ron Schmitt, formerly of the renowned Celtic group Pendragon and bassist/guitarist Jon Brennan of Shryne, Kari has been collaborating on and developing original material for possible future release. She also transcribes, co-arranges and records with fellow composer Kevin Campbell on much of his work, and serves as his co-producer in the studio.
A member of ASCAP since 1989 (recipient of numerous popular songwriting awards), the Rhode Island Songwriters Association since 1993, and most recently Just Plain Folks online since 1998, Kari has made several appearances on RI cable television ("Just Plain Folk," "Artists/RI," "The Don Lincoln Show"), received some airplay in the greater New England area and abroad, and performs at local festivals, bookstores and coffeehouses, as well as in Europe every few years or so.
Kari made short tours to northern France in September 2000, and again in July 2004 to Paris and Aix-en-Provence. The most recent trip was to record and promote an upcoming 5-track release "Pas de Deux," a preview of her next full length album, "Nos Mots."
