Description
Joe Herbek has been performing and recording on the New York scene and touring around the world for the last 15 years. In the late 1990s when Joe was performing and teaching music in the British Virgin Islands, he fell deeply in love with the Brazilian sound. He decided to return to New York to record bossa nova and samba tunes, heavily influenced by Joao Gilberto and the writings of Antonio Carlos Jobim and others. What came out of those sessions is what we present to you now, "Sambossa", which exemplifies Herbek's passion for the Brazilian melodies and rhythms. Herbek was fortunate to have on hand some of the finest Brazilian musicians on the New York scene, Vanderlei Pereira on drums and Paolo Andre Tavares on guitar, as well as David Shaich on bass.
Joe Herbek has been performing and touring with soul jazz guitar legend Melvin Sparks since 2000, and has been featured on two Melvin Sparks Band recordings on the Savant label, the critically acclaimed "What You Hear Is What You Get" and soon to be released, "It Is What It Is". Herbek's other recording credits include Daktaris, Soul Providers, Soweto Soleil & the Flames of Fire, Joe Battaglia's New York Big Band, and many others.
Discover Joe Herbek's soulful, sensual sound in one of the most beautiful genres known to music, Brazilian jazz - on the CD "Sambossa".
"Sambossa is just beautiful. It makes you feel like you are really in Rio de Janeiro. Herbek's quartet gets into each composer's mind, playing bossa nova the way it was intended to be played -- a simple, sophisticated sound. So lyrical and in tune with the Brazilian landscape, Herbek's playing brings to mind the shades of lush green rainforest, and the sparkling blue of Ipanema seaside. The alto saxophone has a clear, marvelous tone. Joe Herbek's "Sambossa" -- Brother Samba and Sister Bossa, hand in hand to fall in love again on the beat of 'Batida Diferente.' As Jobim said: 'Music is something eternal. It is not as disposable as my razor' (Antonio Carlos Jobim)"
