Description
Laurie Z.'s second release contains richly textured, melodic pieces chronicling life's changes and challenges. Laurie blends classical, jazz, new age and ambient influences to create her unique style, adding viola, sax, guitar & drums to her keyboards. "Life, for most people, consists of living on the lines - that is, doing what they feel they are supposed to do, or what is expected of them, instead of allowing themselves to soar to their own personal heights and challenges. Truly, life often hands us the best opportunities for growth when we least expect it, when something unanticipated interrupts our life "to do" list. I believe that the greatest things life has to offer lie "between the lines", when we take advantage of serendipitous events and begin to paint our own picture of what truly can be for us, not what 'should be' for us." ~Laurie Z.~
Few artists can mix classical, modern jazz and new age as gracefully as keyboardist and composer Laurie Z. With four releases to her credit, Laurie's music has been heard across the globe and over the airwaves on hundreds of radio stations. It's no wonder she has been called "absolutely amazing" by prominent music critics.
Her titles include the brand new release "Heart of the Holidays", which features actor Jack Palance on vocals for two tracks, "Window To The World", "Life Between The Lines", and "Roots", her solo acoustic piano album.
Roots was considered for eight Grammy nominations, and Life Between The Lines was named "New Age Album of the Year" by Scott Brodie of CHRW 94.7 FM in Ontario, Canada.
The companion music book to her third album, "Roots: The Solo Piano Songbook", contains exact transcriptions of the songs contained on that CD.
Laurie Z.'s music has been picked up by the major Digital Satellite radio networks, and Dolby Labs confirmed the audiophile quality of her recordings by licensing their use and shipping them along with the Dolby Surround Sound unit used by movie theaters and studios nationwide to perfect their sound.
Laurie was also featured in Keyboard Magazine's cover article on "Independent Success Stories."
Laurie Z. is known for her in-concert improvisational compositions and has been featured in solo piano performances at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center and for Yamaha Corporation at the acclaimed Monterey Jazz Festival, along with recent tours across the USA.
Laurie is a classically trained musician, studying since the age of 4, performing live since the age of 5, and composing since the age of 16. Influenced by Beethoven, Alan Parsons, Elton John and Bruce Hornsby, Laurie is known for the memorable melodies in her compositions. "There has to be something that you remember when you turn the radio off," she explains. And there is!
