Description
The Iambic Dream Project proves that the San Francisco Music Scene is alive and well. The poetic brainchild of songwriters, producers, and vocalists Wal K. & Raz Kennedy, "Identity Crisis: Aliens, Beduins, and Leos" is a wonderfully eclectic CD that blends cutting edge lyrics & storytelling with an impressive variety of music, fusing elements of Rock, Funk, Jazz, World Music, and Pop.
The album features more than 50 Singers, Musicians, and Engineers who have worked with Santana, Tracy Chapman, Van Morrison, Aretha Franklin, Bobby McFerrin, Celine Dion, The Weather Girls, Metallica, Whitney Houston, Tori Amos, Ritchie Havens, Counting Crows, Tuck & Patti, Mariah Carey, Fleetwood Mac, Roy Rogers, Voicestra, AFI, and many others.
Often from a Gay Perspective, the songs tap into social & emotional issues, personal relationships, loss, and the importance of dreams. It's all here: Gay Male Prostitution ("The Boys of the Blvd."), Gay/Straight Unrequited Love ("Torch Song"), Wrong Relationships ("Gemini"), Infatuation ("Hero Worship"), Wild Party Girls ("July Rose"), A Collage for Depression ("Blue"), The Importance of Dreams & Creativity (Insomniacs Dream (I.D.)" & "I Could Be Free"), The Joys & Comforts of Celibacy ("Flying Solo"), Loss ("Angelina"), Mistaken Identities ("Mistaken Identity"), Raw Sexuality ("Sweet Desire # 2"), and Spiritual Journeys ("The Trails of Nepal (Trail 1)").
The album features 38 Bay Area and L.A. singers and musicians. The featured performers are as varied as the songs themselves, and they include: Raz Kennedy; a founding member of Voicestra (pls. see bio below)*, Shana Morrison; Van Morrison's daughter & a great performer in her own right, Linda Tillery; founder of The Cultural Heritage Choir, Jeanie Tracy, Lynn Asher, Brett Abramson of Tainted Love, Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Zo Ellis, Caitlin Cornwell, Jordan Omley, and Wal K.
Our songs were most recently performed at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, The Sweetwater in Mill Valley, CA, the Jazzschool, (that's how they spell it), in Berkeley, CA, and 9 out of the 13 tracks are being played on the radio.

Here's what some of the people who've purchased our CD have written, via e-mail:
"It all sounds so great! So much variety...such a great ensemble of folks, sounds and songs!"
"I am thoroughly enjoying the music and the design of the package!"
"Dear Wal K.: Do people tell you that you sound like Michael Franks? You have a great soothing voice!"
"It is one of the best CD's I have heard in a long time."
"You are truly such a beautiful, profound songwriter and I feel like each of your songs is like a little story unfolding. You are a pioneer writing about so many different topics, as well as being gay, the gay lifestyle and the effect it has on him and his family. You are a teacher, teaching the world how to have more respect and compassion for the differences & pain of others. Bravo to you! It is much needed right now in a world currently so full of pain."
"I'm blown away!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just sat and listened and read your entire CD and you have to know how totally impressed I am."
"Your CD so fascinated me I've got to learn more about you."
"Wael--great job on your record! Raz did a terrific job producing and singing, especially on "Gemini."
"Wow! What variety, and good quality songs. You done good! I like all the different grooves underneath the songs."
"Hey Wael - Just wanted to tell you - I've been listening to your CD here at work for the last couple of days, and I'm really impressed. You (and Raz and everyone else) did a
wonderful job. Best of luck, and thanks for putting it out there!"
"I really, really like the CD. And I like the photo of you inside the booklet: Cute, cute, cute."
"My mom & I listened to the CD & really liked it. We both thought it was professionally done. I think that using various mixes of music reflects, at a certain level, a sort of cultural mixture, and for the first time I think I felt the sounds being as insightful as the words... but that could be just me ... given the mood I was in when listening."
"I just wanted to say that the CD is truly amazing. The mixture of different genres makes the music inspiring, relaxing and deep, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the CD. Where has this hidden talent been all along?! Good luck in working on your next CD and I look forward to hearing it."
"Dear Wael: I spoke with you Friday night (at the Sweetwater) and purchased your album, The Iambic Dream Project. I like the album a great deal. I have played it four or five times so far this weekend."
"Hey Wael! Your CD sounds great: beautiful production, very cool melodies and lots of variety in the songs and sounds. Good job, man! We'd love to share a show with you sometime. Best wishes and best of luck with Iambic Dreams!"
