Description
If it's a gentle row down the stream you're after, better pull out of these waters now. Listen. That's not one, but two major gales, both originating from Boston. The soft caress of Helms may distract you into equating life with dreams, but that would be your mistake.
Yeah, they access quiet places and spaces, but those are often the harbinger of a thunderous squall. You'd be done in a boat like that. Best to let Helms' craft steer you through the delicate melodic shoals and sonically stormy deepwater of these two tracks, one of which is exclusive to this release.
To confront Victory at Sea's music, fraught with dark menace and furious beauty, is to find oneself walking a plank to stare into the roily deep and seeing it as strangely inviting. Drummer Finny Moore (Robots, Pizza) debuts on these two harrowing offerings, which are, like the Helms songs, the scurvy-fighting fruit of some living room sessions with engineer Andy Hong. But Victory at Sea trades in sweet for savvy. And they've jettisoned all the lifeboats.
