Description
The engaging Singer, Songwriter, Kimrea has been likened to Jewel, Norah Jones, Cheryl Crow, Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, and even Neil Young. She has a beautiful, emotionally expressive voice uniquely her own that easily belts or croons according to the mood of the song, and a refreshing, honest songwriting style that is both musically and lyrically compelling. She has been composing songs, performing, and growing her musical talents for over 30 years. She writes and sings with a soulful, compassion of spirit that reaches young and old alike. Drawing from a vast variety of covers as well as from her own extensive catalog of original songs, Kimrea performs a strong show that has the power to delight and entertain a broad audience.
Kimrea is a regular performer in the San Francisco Bay Area with her band, Dreamdogs. Kimrea & Dreamdogs are a versatile group of professional musicians, with an extensive catalog of excellent original songs and well known popular songs. Blues, pop, rock, country, jazz, classics old and new, you name it, Dreamdogs play it. The rich four part vocal harmonies, and solid musicianship of this tight little band are refreshing to hear.
The Dreamdogs, with Joe Lococo on lead guitar and fiddle, Russ Whitehead on bass and Joost Vonk on drums, formed around songwriter Kimrea four years ago at the No Name Bar in Sausalito California, where she has performed every Monday night for the last 5 years. They play regularly in various venues all over the Bay Area, and beyond.
Delighting audiences of all ages with everything from 50's "Doo Wop", to contemporary favorites, these four old school players will bring you back to some of your fondest musical memories and create new memories with their fresh original songs that are destined to become classics.
First your toes start tapping, then you're up on your feet, swaying & dancing. Next thing you know, you're singing along and those catchy Dreamdog songs are following you home.
The Dreamdogs Live "Pre-Platinum" CD was recorded & mixed expertly at the World Famous Music Club, The Sweetwater (www.sweetwatersaloon.com) in Mill Valley, California by the Guru of Sound, Allen Lam (www.allenlam.com) on a 16 track digital recorder. The sound quality is excellent and the live feel is infectious!
Kimrea's eclectic-pop-folk-rock style has nuances of jazz, touches of blues, influences of country, and pinches of punk. The strength of her voice carries us off on a melodic escape into the landscape of her songs. Her lyrics are beautifully crafted poetry, drawing from her amazing life journey.
Her songwriting experience spans an impressive three decades. Her debut CD, "Dream Dogs", released in April of 2001, sampled from a vast library of original tunes, giving us a flavorful taste of things to come from this prolifically active songwriter.
Kimrea began writing, singing and playing music at age 13, when she ran away from home and was introduced to the guitar at a coffee-house in Elkhart, Indiana, called "Partly Daves".
By the time she was 17, Kimrea was performing solo gigs as a folk artist, doing the required "Top-40" covers and sneaking in an occasional original song from time to time. She played six nights a week in the ski country of Northern Michigan, between Traverse City and Kalamazoo. Her venues consisted of nightclubs, dinner clubs, coffee shops, bars and college campuses.
In 1978, Kimrea bought a one-month rail pass and continued her journey in search for places where she could play her own music. Ultimately landing in San Francisco, she became a seasoned street musician. Her travels circled around the continent, via New York, New Orleans, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Montreal, Cambridge and Boston, and helped in the development of songwriting that is inspired by an infinite variety of styles and forms of music.
In 1984, burnt from the hard life of a street musician, Kimrea disappeared from the music scene. She worked as a gardener, a secretary, a web developer, an artist and a preschool teacher, continuing to write her songs and testing them out at the local Mill Valley Sweetwater Open Mic.
In 1999, encouraged by her friend, the late Rose Frager of the Record Plant, Kimrea decided to perform again. After her first gig in over 15 years, Kimrea found herself at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley with a record deal, recording her first album. She has since captured the attention of world-renowned producer, Narada Michael Walden, (www.naradamichaelwalden.com) who is currently producing her song "What Do You Want From Me" with her. Her Self Produced, Live, second album, "Pre-Platinum" recorded with her band, Dreamdogs at the Sweetwater, just released in September, 2004 is already getting rave reviews.
On May 23, 2005, Kimrea & Dreamdogs will be recording a new live CD of all New Original Songs at the No Name Bar in Sausalito California. It will be here at CD Baby soon!
