Description
It's finally here!!! The new album from ex- Lynyrd Skynyrd/Steve Earle/Little America drummer/singer, Kurt Custer, entitled Chemical Imbalance. You remember Custer's 2001 release, Peaceful Lunatic, which received rave reviews! Songs like "Old Man Snead" and "The Real Me," showed us the storytellers' point of view of life on a Carson California culdesac. The band still rehearses there as Kurt's Mom now resides in a dementia facility for Alzheimers Disease. His Mom was diagnosed with this 5 years ago and this gives us the bands reason...it's drive. The new record is certainly worth the wait! On Chemical Imbalance,Track #3,"Before You Go Away",is a poignant tribute to Mary, an intelligent, marvelous woman. She had dreams and high aspirations for her kids, like any other Mom. Simple and direct, the song strikes a chord with people everywhere. "It will bring more awareness to this
monster," Kurt says. From the dark, urgent "It Rained," to the whimsical "Makes Me High," to the Bossa
Nova based "How To Play." Ending with a powerful, country/blues version of the Rolling Stones' "Backstreet Girl." The live show is full of energy and the band Custer has assembled adds to the feeling that, "Wow, this is one of the best shows I've ever seen." Barclay Roach, a.k.a Missouri, on Lead Guitar and Gary Pepper on Drums. Custer plays rhythm guitar & sings these well-crafted songs. One fan said "Man, they really play their ass off!" They recently played to near sold-out venues around Los Angeles and are due to tour around various areas of the country this year. Another fan said
"It's fun to listen to Custer's stories in the
songs and you can relate to them like you lived it." There's a depth and a quality to Chemical Imbalance
that's in tunes like "Same Song," or "This Way," about his Brother with Mental-Illness. People will identify with the various emotions this ride takes you on. It's an exuberant, sometimes dark depictional journey. Have a listen.
