When Wampeters made Hey Judas, David Geffen was not on the premises. Nor was Don Was. There were no ads in Spin, no MTV promos, no choreographed buzz.
But there was creative freedom. Nobody was watching the clock as the CD grew. Built from the ground up, Hey Judas is indie pop before indie went mainstream.
