Description
Woody Sparks is the stage name for songwriter/composer Rolf Kempf, and PATCHWORKS is a transitional work bridging from loop-based composition over to freehand improvisation using synthesized sounds. Where there are grooves, they are latin-inspired or middle eastern, speaking with a jazz accent. The pieces without standard rhythm tracks are like concert-hall improvisations inspired by Keith Jarret, only using contemporary techniques and sampled sounds to create a fantastic aura of sound along with playful melodies. Layers of meaning and subtleties make multiple listening a joy.
