Description
They may wear 16th century clothing when they perform, but there's nothing old fashioned about the musical duo called Wyldefyre. Their debut CD was recorded using 21st century digital equipment and is being sold via the World Wide Web. The music- a well thought out blend of traditional "Celtic" songs from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales along with original material- is a mix of period ballads, sea shantys and up-tempo "drinking songs" that appeals to modern audiences and renaissance faire fans alike.
Wyldefyre began, appropriately enough, on St. Patrick's Day 2004 when two friends, attending a performance by a popular renaissance faire act, discovered they shared a common musical background. Both Mark Belenson and Cheryl Zimmerman had grown up singing in school choirs. Cheryl had continued her musical path as a founding member of medieval madrigal group Dragonsfaire, and had performed as both actor and musician at Renaissance faires. Mark had compiled a thirty year resume as an electric bassist, most notably a ten year stint touring and recording with southern rockers Bandit. With Cheryl's departure, Mark has been joined by Edie Cattle, also a renfaire veteran and a superb singer and guitarist. Their second CD is now in the works, along with plans to extend their faire and pub performance schedule farther afield.
Since January 2005, they've performed at medieval and renaissance faires throughout Florida and released their first CD which is selling at their shows, on their website and through online outlets including here on CD Baby and at Amazon.com. Their music is heard on internet radio station Renradio(www.renradio.com)and other streaming internet stations.
