Description
Zwei "zway" is a gross mispronuciation of the German word for "two." But the duo behind it, brothers Jones and Kuti, are a perfect pronuciation of soul/funk. Blending influences as wide as Prince and Marvin to Hall & Oates and Mobb Deep, their sound is truly their own.
Brought up in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Largo, MD, the duo are prideful of their area and determined to bring the music of D.C. to the world while simultaneously bringing the world to D.C.
The name of the group, however pronounced, means just that. "Everything we do is on the 2. The 2 of us that is. We don't let anything out of the lab without input from both and we don't let too much into that lab other than our own artistry. So sink or swim, we'll do it 2gether. He's got my back, and I've always got his," says Jones of his creative childhood partner.
Zwei is most concerned with their fellow artists getting the shine they deserve in the rest of the vast music industry and the multi-dimensional buying public. So, while they are artists in their own right, their writing and production extends to quite a few of their colleagues.
